1) Why is Father's Day celebrated on March 19th in Italy?
In countries with a Catholic tradition such as Italy, Spain and Portugal, Father's Day falls on March 19 in honor of St. Joseph, "father of all fathers", as well as the father of Jesus.
2) When is this anniversary celebrated in other countries?
When in Rome, do as the Romans do: in the United States, in most Latin American countries, in Mexico, but also in China, France and the United Kingdom, Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June; in Belgium and Austria on the second Sunday in June; in Russia in October; and in Sweden, Norway and Finland in November.
3) What are the typical Italian dishes of Father's Day?
They are, above all ... sweet!
First of all, let's not forget the famous Zeppole di San Giuseppe, originally from Naples; they are fried puffs filled with custard, with a black cherry in alcohol on the top. Other typical sweet treats of this anniversary are the rice fritters (Tuscany and Umbria), the Sfinci di San Giuseppe (Sicily), and the Raviole di San Giuseppe (Bologna).
